These are the collage scans that I showed the originals for below. I did the CI tutorials 6 & 8 to add some canvas and border on the edges. Then I free edited all of the masking brush marks on a different layer and added the red border. I was really nervous printing them but I'm really pleased with how they turned out, I think they're even better than they looked on the screen :)

This is my collage scan that I combined the two pictures above to get. I turned the objects image black and white and then used the art history brush to bring back some of the more colorful objects. The time picture I added an artistic filter to and then masked parts of it in to the objects picture. I was thinking that time is everywhere and it basically is dictating our lives, and these objects also kind of take their turn monopolizing our attentions. I think it's important to take our time and make these different stages in our lives and those around us matter.

This is my single image scan. We play a lot of card games because my husband doesn't really like board games so I thought I'd do something that kind of represents how we spend our time (like the objects above). All I changed was the levels in this picture.

This is the original photo that I used in my template, the edits from the original original were that I lowered the sats in photoshop and used a reflector to get the light from my window on to her.

FA Template: I did CI tutorial #36 to make the template and then converted both images to black and white.

Mesa Falls FA Template: I actually used the exact same template and turned off the other layers and then saved it as a separate file. I had to change my shapes a little to fit this picture better, but I think it turned out! Oh...and I enlarged my text a little for this one as well.

I was sitting on the grass and my husband was standing above me and it looked like he was eating the moon whenever he talked so I made him pose while I got this one where he actually was trying to eat the moon. It was interesting for me to watch him according to where I told him to because he had no idea what I was seeing.

Swatting a plane: Nikon D60, Rexburg, Idaho, 06/20/10, 8:30 pm, 1/200, f7.1

There were a bunch of people at the park and a group of people were playing with a soccer ball and a Styrofoam plane. I thought the plane looked incredibly realistic for being fake. Instead of doing something REALLY cool with it like I wanted to, I just snapped a picture of a girl trying to catch the plane (I didn't really want to talk to them so I didn't get a posed one...).

Vortex tree: So I combined the two pictures below to get this photolusion that is supposed to look like the tree is sucking him in. All of the edits were in photoshop. I used the two photos as layers and masked parts of Miguel in that I wanted to see, then I added distortion filters (pinch and twirl) several times to get it to where it is now. THEN, I turned it black and white and revealed the color on Miguel with the Art History brush.

My parents let the cows in the yard to "mow" the grass down when it's too tall to use the lawn-mower, but thankfully the cows hadn't been in yet so I was able to get this sunset shot with the grass and the barn behind it. Love!

At my parent's this weekend I was walking around the property and my dad has a whole bunch of old tractor stuff laying around so I decided to take advantage of it and get some of the bright colored objects for this week's assignments.

You know how you can get a baked potato with chives from Wendy's and...a lot of other places I suppose, well, my mom has a little garden at her house with chives in it. I didn't even know that chives flowered, but this is what a chive flower looks like. There's a greenhouse with plastic around it in the background that filtered the setting sunlight. I was amazed that I got this shot. So lucky to have been there :)

Went home this weekend...like stated before, and my husband really wanted to build a fire because my family lives out in the middle of nowhere and anything goes. So we built a fire, roasted marshmallows, and sang campfire songs till midnight. I took advantage of the opportunity to get some family shots AND fulfill my assignment! I didn't have a tripod though because it broke.. :( so I tried to hold as still as possible. Surprisingly, I think it turned out alright!

Main street, where all the action is. It was windy so the trees were moving, but at least the sidewalk wasn't! My first time ever successfully taking one of these pictures :) Glad I got a new tripod.

Sorry they're all mostly children. It seems once you have a baby and all your friends have babies there are a lot of babies around quite often. I can't resist those cute little faces. AND, I only had my camera for a couple shots because I kept forgetting to charge the battery :( I know, lame excuse.

Sunday was a rainy day so I went out in the rain and caught some rain on some leaves! It turned out a little blurry because the rain was hitting the leaves and it was a little dark and I didn't have a tripod, but I sharpened it a little in Camera Raw.

Didn't turn out at sweet as I saw it in my head, but I still like this one a lot. We put some old dusty sunglasses on her that had been sitting for....probably about 9 months now, without being touched. I couldn't tell that her face wasn't in focus like the rest of her when I looked on the screen and she pulled them off her face shortly thereafter.

A Photo A Day: I really liked the color that was already on the template for the font, but on some of my pictures you couldn't read the day because it was too dark so I chose a brighter color. Then on some of the pictures you couldn't read the text because it was too like so I added a drop shadow effect to the text. That's the only thing I changed in the template.

I felt like this was a good representation of an environmental portrait because Sister Esplin is a photographer at heart and is in her element here.

Overall I just had a great time in Photoshop doing these edits. They're not very time-consuming but they have great effects. My husband came in an asked what I was doing and I said, "Homework." He just laughed (because I was really enjoying myself).

Once again, a picture of my little girl. She's taking over my life, I swear. Anyway, we were singing twinkle twinkle little star to her and she just loves it when you sing ANYthing to her and I got to capture the moment. She's smiles and laughs a lot and well...there you see it. I intentionally chose this one because it was a little underexposed as you can tell and I wanted to see if I could fix it better in Camera Raw.

Process: In Camera Raw I brought down the sats, brought up the exposure, clarity, and temperature and added a highlight priority vignette with about a 50 point feather.

Needless to say, I DID improve the quality of the picture a lot. I love it.

I took a few Panos. I couldn't decide on which one so I posted them all and I'll just give the break-down on one.

Mesa Lower Falls: Mesa Falls...Nikon D60, 7:00pm, f5.6, 1/125, ISO 160, matrix metering

It is a 4 combination panorama overlooking the lower Mesa Falls. The final panorama I edited in Dynamic Photo with HDR. I just did a perspective edit and added some saturation.

I had already taken a pano of the upper falls but I wasn't sure if it would work out so when we were down at the lower falls I set up my tripod on top of the rock wall overlooking the falls and just took a ton of series of pictures. This one and one other ended up looking right to me. The sun was just over the hill and of course you can't see it so I was getting all sorts of lens flares, but it gives it a bit of a yellow tint in the end, which I don't mind :)

MesaUpper Falls: Mesa Falls...Nikon D60, 6:45pm, f5.6, 1/800, ISO 1600, spot metering

This was a 3 picture composite. I also took it in to HDR to bring out the colors. I was a little bit skeptical of how it would turn out because I was so close to it all and didn't feel like I could be back far enough to get it and not all of the icky railing too. Anyway, it's one of my favorites because of the moss covered rocks and the beautiful waterfall. It's nice that we can get so close to so many beautiful things out here.

Ashton field: Ashton, Idaho, 8:00 pm, Nikon D60, 7:00pm, f5.6, 1/1250, ISO 1400, spot metering

This one is also a 4 picture composite. On the way back to Rexburg from Mesa Falls we pulled over on the side of the road so I could get this. I had actually pictured this one in my head. It was a little different up there: more sunset colors, the sprinklers had the water on, etc. But that's okay because I still like it. I took quite a few and had to adjust my settings a lot because the sun was right there in my face. Anyway, it's just a farmer's field right outside of Ashton.

I was taking family pictures and this little boy would not be happy. He was tired and sad most of the time. I caught him here right in between some sad faces...he still looks a little disgruntled :( I did CI #3 on this one with some burnt edges added. I added a level change adjustment layer used the soft light blending mode. I masked it 50% off pretty much all around the edges, it was too dark there for me.

My husband, baby, and I went to the farmer's market on Friday because we only live a block away. It was a little windy, but baby just needed to get out for a bit. We got a couple of hot dogs because we hadn't eaten yet and while we were sitting on some benches by the tabernacle I decided to take some pictures of Audri all cute in her little hoodie. Fun times. I did CI # 23 on this one. The filters I applied were poster edges and a diffuse glow. I masked out some of the effect on Audri's face.

Buttercup: Rexburg, Idaho, 05/10/10, 7:25 pm

I saw a patch of buttercups surrounding a water feature right off of archer higway and I pulled over to see what I could get. I really tried to get up-close and personal for some nice bokeh. I wanted to get some of the waterfall in the background so I kind of had to put the flowers in the corners and turn, which I thnk turned out nicely. I did some level changes on this one.

Everyone knows about those crazy ducks at the nature park, well...I ventured out there to get some fauna :) This white duck really stuck out to me because he wasn't all dirty. Also, I was thinking he'd make a nice cut-out sometime in the future. I did some level changes and cropped off the bottom of the duck.

These tulips were right next to the buttercups, these are the only two so they really stuck out. There were a bunch of thorn bushes around so it was kind of hard to get down in there and I couldn't get the tulips standing out of the bunch of buttercups like I wanted, so I settled for a macro of the sides of the flowers. I did some level changes on this one.

River Sunset: Nikon D60, 05/02/10, Rexburg, ID, 7:30 pm, f 5.6, 1/160

Yellow Cement: Nikon D60, 05/03/10, Rexburg, ID, 7:00 pm, f 5.6, 1/80

I used an overlay blending mode for the yellow cement and the river sunset. Then I added the text using tutorial number 16. In the blending options I added a texture, a drop shadow and bevel and emboss.
I really enjoyed the river sunset picture and was happy to have been in time to get it. The yellow cement is just a close up of an everyday curb.

Yellow! It's such a bright, warm color, so inviting and happy. Once I finally picked the color I wanted to stalk, I saw it everywhere! It made me want to choose a color to watch for every day and see how many things I notice that are predominately that color. I enjoyed trying to find interesting objects, places, and angles of those objects and places. The trucks are over by the campgrounds and nature park. I forgot the name of the business, I believe they're water trucks? Sorry. The twigs are from a yellow twig dogwood in the nature park. The lines on the road are over just off of Pioneer Road where they put in that new road so you don't have to go around. And the cap is in a field across the railroad tracks past the Tesoro station off of 2nd East.

Branch

Fire Hydrant

Both photos Branch and Fire Hydrant were taken in Rexburg April 2010. 1/400, f5.6 with a Nikon D60. I don't have any special connection to the photos, they were just a little bit interesting to me. The first photo is a picture of a tree branch that grew around a power line so they had to cut it off. The second is just a fire hydrant.

My little sister asked me to do her engagements and her wedding pictures. It was lots of fun for me. I hadn't ever done the veil over the face thing and wanted to try it out. I think it turned out nicely. Taken February 2010 in Boise, Idaho.

Heather and Bryan Engagements

These two came down from Moscow, Idaho for me to do some engagements. They had been dating for about 3 years and were in for a long engagement as well. They're awesome! I tried to capture what I felt from them in this green field by the BYUI gardens
